The fifth edition of the AlmAnimal Animal Adoption Fair is held from this Friday, October 23, until Sunday, October 25, at the Mirador de la Rambla. It is the first time this event has moved to the city centre, according to the Ayuntamiento de Almería.
What you can see
Over the three days there will be children's workshops, storytelling, gymkhanas, dog demonstrations and displays by the Unidad Canina de la Policía Local and the Club Canino Ciudad de Almería. Open veterinary consultations and talks on animal welfare, behaviour and responsible ownership have also been scheduled.
The highlight will be the adoption parades, in which the dogs and cats taken in at the Centro de Protección y Adopción Animal Municipal de Almería (CEPAaMA) will be the protagonists. Those who come along will be able to meet them and consider the possibility of giving them a home. The programme also includes a pet contest and parade open to the people of Almería with their own animals, and activities dedicated to learning about and adopting cats.
More adoptions than in all of 2025
The Ayuntamiento says the municipal centre has reached 865 adoptions so far this year, above the 857 recorded during the whole of 2025. The councillor for Sostenibilidad Medioambiental y Energética, Antonio Urdiales, has stated that these figures "show that there is ever greater sensitivity and commitment on the part of Almería society to animal welfare".
Urdiales has insisted that the municipal goal remains to move towards zero abandonment and has encouraged the people of Almería to visit the Mirador de la Rambla and learn about the work being done in the city in favour of animals.
Who organises it
The fair is organised by the Ayuntamiento de Almería and Athisa, in collaboration with the Club Canino Ciudad de Almería. It involves animal protection associations, veterinary professionals, dog trainers, volunteers and collaborating organisations.
How to take part
The activities take place at the Mirador de la Rambla from this Friday, October 23, until Sunday, October 25. The pet contest and parade is open to anyone who wants to take part with their own companion animals.
