The Agrupación Musical San Indalecio (AMSI) is celebrating its 35th anniversary this Saturday, October 24, with a gala-concert that will begin at 19.00 hours. Admission is free and open to all until full capacity is reached. The event is part of the autumn programme of the Department of Culture, Education, Museums and Traditions of the Almería City Council.
Music, images and memories
The show will combine live music with images, testimonies and memories from the group's history. The gala will pay tribute to musicians, conductors, teachers, board members, families and collaborators who have helped the group grow.
The Banda Sinfónica San Indalecio, conducted by Manuel Antonio Horcas Cerezo, will be the musical centrepiece. Two former conductors, Juan José Navarro Hernández and Francisco José Pérez Cruz, will take part alongside it, returning to lead the band in some of the most representative works of its history.
A journey from 1991
The repertoire will trace the group's evolution from its origins in 1991 to the present day. Pieces such as «Camino de la Paz», by Juan Montserrat Sala, the first conductor of the AMSI; the pasodoble «Si La Cañada», one of its hallmarks, and «Divertimento Circense», composed for its 25th anniversary, will be performed. Two movements from «Arlequín», a work the band played at the Certamen Internacional de Bandas de Música Ciudad de Valencia last summer, will also be performed.
As the group's conductor, Manuel Horcas, explains, «it will be a celebration of music, but also of friendship, collective effort and the commitment of all the people who have helped keep this project alive for more than three decades».
How to attend
The concert is on Saturday, October 24 at 19.00 hours. No ticket or registration is needed: admission is free and open to all until the venue reaches full capacity.
The history of San Indalecio began with Margarita López Ramón's initiative to create a music band in the La Cañada neighbourhood, a project through which hundreds of children, young people and adults have passed.
