The Banda Municipal de Música de Almería opened its autumn morning concert series this Sunday, October 18, at the Teatro Apolo. It did so with the programme «Una mirada a la Hispanidad, músicas de acá y de allá», a repertoire that links Spanish folklore with the music of Latin America, according to the Área de Cultura, Educación, Museos y Tradiciones del Ayuntamiento.

A journey through six works

The concert, conducted by José Solá Palmer, began with «Fiesta romera» (2024), by Juan Antonio García Mesas, and continued with «Acuarelas campesinas» (1930), by Emilio Cebrián Ruiz. Then came «Los Madriles» (1993), by Miguel Asins Arbó, with its three movements dedicated to the capital. The journey crossed the Atlantic with «Joropo» (1944), by the Venezuelan Moisés Moleiro; «Huapango» (1941), by the Mexican José Pablo Moncayo, and «Cordillera de los Andes» (1962), by Arie Malando, which closed the morning concert with references to Cotopaxi, Illimani and Coropuna.

Four more dates until December

The series continues on Sunday, October 25 with «Una mirada paralela a la música para banda y orquesta del siglo XIX». On Sunday, November 8 the band joins Almerijazz with «Una mirada al jazz en paralelo: Andalucía – Estados Unidos». The last two dates will be on November 29 and December 13, both under the title «Una mirada a nuestros solistas», the third and fourth instalments. After that will come the special Christmas concert.

Free entry

All concerts take place at the Teatro Apolo at 12.00 hours. Entry is free until full capacity is reached, with no need for prior registration. The series is part of the Otoño Cultural programme of the Ayuntamiento de Almería.
