Filmmakers who want to take part in the XIII Gallo Pedro Inclusive Short Film Festival can still submit their works. The deadline remains open until Tuesday, October 27 and, according to Verdiblanca, around fifty short films have already been received, more than last year. When registration closes, the jury will choose the works to be shown in the two official sessions: on November 17, within FICAL, and on December 1, at Espacio ALMA.

María Valverde, honorary patron

Actress María Valverde will be the honorary patron of this edition, as announced by the festival coordinator, filmmaker Daniel Parra. She takes over from Isabel Gemio, Javier Fesser, Roberto Pérez Toledo, Leticia Dolera, Álvaro Longoria and Chelo Loureiro. Verdiblanca highlights her debut as a director with «El canto de las manos», a documentary about inclusion through music and deafness. The festival maintains its goal of giving visibility to functional diversity in cinema, both on screen and in the work behind it. To this end it has the backing of the Almería City Council, the Provincial Council and the Regional Government of Andalusia.

Screenings, awards and an exhibition

The jury of this edition is made up of production director Loles Peña; M.ª Josefina Angulo, promoter of the Recortos festival; Marina del Rey, coordinator of Espacio ALMA; and a representative of the organisation. The Canal Sur Radio y Televisión award for the best Andalusian audiovisual creation will have its own jury, with journalist Carlos Juan. The Closing Gala will be held on Monday, December 21 at 17:00, coinciding with the shortest day of the year, and some of the winning shorts will be shown there. In addition, on December 16 the exhibition «Carteles para un Gallo Pedro» opens at the Biblioteca Pública Provincial Francisco Villaespesa, with designs by students of the Escuela de Arte, which can be visited until January 15.

How to take part

Anyone who wants to submit a short film has until Tuesday, October 27. The rules and information about the activities, screenings and other initiatives can be found on the festival's website. The presentation was attended by the president of Verdiblanca, Antonio Sánchez de Amo; the councillor for Family, Equality and Inclusion, Paola Laynez; the vice-president and provincial deputy for Culture, Cinema and Almerian Identity, Almudena Morales; and the regional delegate for Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport of the Regional Government in Almería, Juan José Alonso.
