The Municipal Band of Almería offers this Sunday, October 25 its second concert of the autumn cycle. It will be at 12.00 noon at the Teatro Apolo, with free admission until full capacity is reached. The program is titled «Una mirada paralela a la música para banda y orquesta del siglo XIX» and proposes a journey through different European musical traditions, from the march and the operatic overture to the ballet and the symphonic poem.

The program

The concert opens with the «Marcia per il Sultano» (1852) by Gioachino Rossini. It is followed by the «Obertura para vientos, opus 24» (1824) by Félix Mendelssohn, written when the composer was 15 years old, and the overture to the comic opera «Raymond» (1851) by Ambroise Thomas. The second part includes the symphonic poem «Il Giudizio Universale» (1878) by Camillo de Nardis, the ballet fantasy «Coppélia» (1870) by Léo Delibes and the overture to «El holandés errante» (1841) by Richard Wagner. According to the Band's conductor, José Solá Palmer, the 19th century was «una etapa decisiva para la evolución de las bandas de música», because the incorporation of saxophones and saxhorns expanded their technical, sonic and expressive possibilities. Solá considers that «Il Giudizio Universale» is «una de las obras más destacadas del repertorio original para banda del siglo XIX».

The rest of the cycle

The cycle will continue on Sunday, November 8 with «Una mirada al jazz en paralelo: Andalucía – Estados Unidos», within the framework of the Almerijazz. Then will come on November 29 «Una mirada a nuestros solistas (3)» and on December 13 «Una mirada a nuestros solistas (4)», the last before the extraordinary Christmas concert. All the appointments are at 12.00 noon at the Teatro Apolo and with free admission until full capacity is reached.

How to attend

No ticket or prior registration is needed: the Teatro Apolo is accessed on Sunday, October 25 at 12.00 noon until capacity is reached. The cycle is organized by the Área de Cultura, Educación, Museos y Tradiciones del Ayuntamiento de Almería.
