The one-year Euribor, the index used to revise most variable-rate mortgages, stood at an average of 3.247% in September 2026, according to data published by the Banco de España.

What it means for mortgage holders

The figure affects people with a variable-rate mortgage loan whose revision falls on these dates: as the index rises, the instalment they pay is recalculated upwards. The Euribor has risen for two months in a row and stands well above the level of a year ago.

Three months of rises

The August 2026 average was 2.954%, so the index has gained just over three tenths in a month. The comparison with September 2025 is steeper: back then the Euribor stood at 2.172%, which means more than one percentage point of difference in twelve months. The Banco de España publishes these monthly values on its interest rate statistics page, where the full series can be consulted.
