The fifth edition of the AlmAnimal Animal Adoption Fair is held from this Friday, October 23 until Sunday 25 at the Mirador de la Rambla, in the heart of Almería. This is the first time this event has moved to this space, according to the Almería City Council.

More than 200 animals await a home

At the Municipal Animal Protection and Adoption Centre of Almería (CEPAaMA) there are currently more than 200 animals, mostly dogs and cats, in a position to be adopted. Flash, Amapola, Piti and Menta are four mixed-breed dogs of approximately one year old that have left the centre to make themselves known among visitors. The fair includes adoption parades in which the CEPAaMA animals are shown to the public and contact is facilitated with those who want to offer them a home.

Activities for the weekend

The programme, with the slogan «Adopta, cuida y comparte», includes children's workshops, storytelling, dog education activities, demonstrations by the Canine Unit of the Local Police and the Club Canino Ciudad de Almería, open veterinary consultations and talks on animal welfare, behaviour and responsible ownership. There are also proposals dedicated to the feline world, environmental enrichment workshops and dog intelligence and obedience games.

Adoptions grow this year

According to the City Council, so far in 2026 CEPAaMA has reached 865 adoptions, above the 857 recorded in all of last year. The mayor, María del Mar Vázquez, has stated that «todos merecemos una segunda oportunidad en la vida» and has encouraged families to visit the fair and adopt a pet. At the opening she was accompanied by the councillor for Environmental and Energy Sustainability, Antonio Urdiales.

What you can do

The fair is open throughout the weekend at the Mirador de la Rambla. Anyone interested in adopting can come and meet the CEPAaMA animals and take part in the adoption parades.
