The first Intercultural Festival of the Nations of Almería has closed its first edition with nearly 90,000 visitors. The figure exceeds initial forecasts, according to the Almería City Council, which describes the proposal as a new City Event.
The festival was held from September 25 to October 12 in the Parque de las Almadrabillas, next to the Cable Inglés. The offering combined international gastronomy, music, dance, crafts and activities for all audiences.
A second edition under study
The City Council and the organizing company, Eventos y Festivales Siglo XXI, will study the possibility of expanding the event in 2027 with an additional weekend, going from 18 to 25 days of duration. The goal is to strengthen international gastronomy and expand cultural, social and charitable content.
The music program included tribute shows to Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Hombres G, The Beatles and Queen, along with world music performances. The gastronomy included offerings from more than 20 countries in America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania, including Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Peru, Palestine, South Africa, Thailand, Greece, Italy and Turkey.
Environmental and coexistence measures
The festival was organized as a Responsible Event, a model that emerged in Vitoria about a decade ago. Among the measures applied were low-consumption lighting, the separation of paper, glass and organic waste at the venue, weekly health inspections of the food and sound limits to help the neighborhood rest.
The councilor for the Area of Social Integration, Participation and Districts, Óscar Bleda, has stated that the festival has had "a great reception among the city's public" and that the City Council wishes "to continue holding it in successive years." The president of Eventos y Festivales Siglo XXI, Sergio Frenkel, has thanked the City Council for its collaboration and the people of Almería for their participation.
