The Municipal Sports Board of Almería opens on Friday, October 23 the period to sign up for two hiking outings for seniors that will take place on November 8 and 22. The destination is La Mena-Macenas, in Mojácar, and the route allows you to discover little-known beaches of the Almería coastline.
A path by the sea
The route starts at the end of the Mojácar promenade, a little beyond the Pueblo Indalo hotel, next to the mouth of the Alfaix rambla. It is a linear out-and-back route that runs along the sea, at the foot of Sierra Cabrera, along the old path that linked Mojácar and Carboneras, heavily used during the 19th century by the coming and going of miners, haulers and muleteers from the iron workings of La Mena de Macenas.
During the walk you pass by the Piedra del Nazareno, a rocky outcrop on which remains of mining activity survive, and by the Castillo de Macenas and the Pirulico watchtower, built to defend the coast from pirate attacks.
How to sign up
Registrations can be made through the «PMD Almería» app, on the Board's page on the municipal website and in person at the Board's offices, in the Palacio de los Juegos Mediterráneos, on calle Santiago Martínez Cabrejas, during office hours.
The period opens on Friday, October 23 and the outings are set for November 8 and 22.

According to the Board, these outings serve to promote healthy lifestyle habits through hiking and to raise awareness of the historical, cultural and landscape heritage of the province.
