Storm DANA Adam has damaged some 130 hectares of agricultural holdings in the Poniente almeriense, according to the first assessment by the Coordinadora de Organizaciones de Agricultores y Ganaderos (COAG) of Almería. The damage is concentrated in Santa María del Águila and Las Norias, in El Ejido, and also reaches points in Dalías and Berja.

What has been lost on the farms

Water and mud have entered the greenhouses, broken bands and structural elements and damaged retaining walls and rural roads. In some points, the force of the water has caused structural breakages and the loss of newly planted crops, right at the start of the winter campaign. COAG warns that excess moisture in the substrate and roots raises the risk of root asphyxia, rot and fungi. That may force plants to be pulled up and compromise the production of the whole campaign.

Two requests to the Junta

The organisation will convey to the Consejería de Agricultura the need for exceptional and direct aid for the affected farmers. According to COAG, it must serve to recover the productive potential of the holdings, not only to compensate part of the material damage. The second demand goes to the Consejería de Sostenibilidad, Medio Ambiente y Economía Azul: a plan for the prevention of flash floods and flooding in the channels and ramblas of the Poniente. COAG calls for cleaning, conditioning, maintenance and hydraulic planning as a permanent policy, with public investment and coordination between administrations.

A countryside hit several times

Storm DANA Adam arrives when the sector has not yet closed the wounds of previous episodes. After the DANA of late October 2024, which damaged more than 5,000 hectares of greenhouses in El Ejido and its region, a storm at the beginning of January 2026 left in the province some 2,000 hectares of extensive crops affected and around 40 hectares of greenhouses damaged. In February, storm Oriana tore off covers and windows on holdings in the north of El Ejido. COAG maintains that the response cannot be limited to compensating the damage once it has occurred and calls for legislative and budgetary measures that strengthen prevention.
