Huércal-Overa brings together Soledad brotherhoods from all over Spain

The town hosts the 51st National Gathering of Soledad Brotherhoods on November 7 and 8, the first to be held here.

Huércal-Overa will be the meeting point for brotherhoods and confraternities of the Soledad from different parts of Spain. The 51st National Gathering is being held in the town for the first time, on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8, and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the image of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, carved in 1976 by the Murcian sculptor José María Sánchez Lozano and titular of the Cofradía del Paso Negro. The events begin on Saturday, November 7 at 10:00 at the Teatro Villa de Huércal-Overa, with a day of lectures. The Bishop of Getafe, Ginés García Beltrán, will speak about «La religiosidad popular como expresión de fe», and the historian José Luis Cuadrado Beltrán will review the history of devotion to the Virgen de la Soledad in the municipality. The morning includes a concert of processional marches and the premiere of a composition dedicated to the Virgin.

That same day, at 17:00, the extraordinary procession of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad through the streets of the town is scheduled, accompanied by the invited brotherhoods. The music will be provided by the Agrupación Musical Virgen del Carmen de La Alfoquía and the Banda de Música de la Cruz Roja de Sevilla. Sunday, November 8 is the central day. At 9:00 the image is moved to the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, where at 10:00 the Bishop of Almería, Antonio Gómez Cantero, will preside over a Eucharist concelebrated by the Bishop of Getafe and other priests. Canal Sur Televisión will broadcast it live. Afterwards there will be the III Convivencia Juvenil de los Jóvenes de la Soledad, to learn about the religious and cultural heritage of Huércal-Overa, and a brotherhood meal will close the gathering. At that event the venue of the next edition will be announced, according to the Diócesis de Almería.
