The Diputación de Almería has approved the tender for the repair and heating works of the municipal pool in La Mojonera, with a budget of 1.7 million euros and an execution period of 18 months. The facility will have a covered and heated pool.
The municipal swimming pool in La Mojonera will have a covered, heated pool that will allow swimming in winter too. The Provincial Council of Almería has approved in the Governing Board the tender for the repair and heating works of the facility, with a budget of 1.7 million euros and an execution period of 18 months. The action is included within the Provincial Plans.
A renovated and larger facility
The project proposes a comprehensive renovation of the facilities. A large part of the current building will be demolished and, on the same site, a new building will be erected and expanded where the new heated pool will go. That covered pool will have 77 square metres within a heated area of about 126 square metres, designed for swimming in the winter months and aimed at health and rehabilitation, especially for older people.
The intervention also includes a multipurpose room of more than 110 square metres, until now non-existent, for sports and other activities, and a café with independent access from the street so that it can open to the public. Accessible changing rooms, toilets, a medical room, storerooms and technical rooms are added. With the expansion, the facility will exceed 600 square metres.
Outdoor pool and energy savings
Outside, the main pool will be refurbished, keeping its location but adapted to current regulations, and the children's pool is moved to another point in the facility to make it easier for people to move around. A high-efficiency aerothermal heat pump will produce the hot water for the changing rooms and heat the heated pool, and the roof of the multipurpose room will carry 22 photovoltaic panels with a total power of 8.8 kW.
The works will be carried out in four phases: demolition of the perimeter fence and the existing buildings, earthworks, construction of the new volumes together with the refurbishment of the outdoor pool, and urbanisation of the plot.
What it means for the municipality
According to the deputy for Development, Antonio J. Rodríguez, the heating will allow «the use of the pool continuously throughout the year». Rodríguez has pointed out that the project also includes «the creation of a multipurpose room and a café area, providing the facility with complementary spaces for the development of municipal and local entity activities».
Procedures
The tender for the works has just been approved in the Governing Board. Companies interested in carrying out the works should keep an eye out for the publication of the contracting procedure.
